Insurance and Breast Reconstruction
For Houston breast reconstruction patients, the Women's Health and Cancer Rights Act of 1998 (WHCRA) requires both group and individual health insurance policies that cover mastectomy to cover subsequent breast reconstruction. This applies to all stages of reconstruction for the breast that received the mastectomy, as well as treatment of the other breast to achieve symmetry. It also applies to virtually any means of reconstruction, including the use of implants and autologous tissue.
